Team 37

Team 37 is made up of four couples
and a Saleisan Brother based in the Southern Flinders Ranges area of South
Australia. One couple from idyllic Crystal Brook and three couples from
the seaside city of Port Pirie make for an interesting blend at our monthly
meetings.
Our meetings generally involve
copious amounts of red wine drank amongst good conversation and always with a
fine shared table. Families are never far away from the conversation and
all members are only too proud to mention their many achievements or heart
breaks.
At each meeting couples share their
feelings from the previous months events, be they family based or work, while
they feast on their shared dinner. After dinner, it is time for a topic of
discussion, normally based around our Christian beliefs and ethos.
End of year is a favorite time when
team members and children join in a Kris Kringle (a small shared present) and a
Xmas get-together.
A highlight of teams life is a
bi-annual retreat. In 1998 the team ventured to the outback and Innamincka
in the far north-east corner of South Australia. The thousand kilometer
journey was interrupted when one of our most experienced explorers had motor vehicle
troubles. Eventually all members camped on the banks of the Coopers
Creek at a point named Policeman's Landing. This was to be the most serene and
idyllic camping spot and a great time was enjoyed by all, canoeing, fishing and
bushwalking.
Eventually it was time to depart for
home, when on the eve of our departure, the heavens opened up and flooded all roads
leading south. This left our intrepid team stranded and at the hands of
nature. Food supplies dwindling and work commitments pending were all at
the beckoning of our Good Lord. Two days later a gap opened and a slippery
ride south began for Team 37.
